SUBTERRANEANS

I made ‘’Subterraneans’’  by improvising on my favorite David Bowie track, ‘’Subterraneans’’.  

I created multiple variations of the song with only sinewaves from Ableton’s stock operator, cut them, merged them together. I automated the envelope and the gradual involvement of the other three oscillators. Filters, hybrid reverb, convolution reverb and the spacial placement of elements are randomized by expression control, while their randomness levels are being gradually increased. 

There are arpeggiators in all channels that are slightly different from each other timing-wise.

While composing this I was thinking about the underground scene Jack Kerouac depicted in his book ‘’The Subterraneans’’ as I thought it would be fitting & help me build the sound world. I tried to make more ‘’grimy’’, darker, more industrial sounds as a contrast to bright oscillators.
